Mary Immaculate community of Franciscan Handmaids of the Good Shepherd was established in Puthuppady in the Diocese of Thamarassery on August 6, 1990. It was the main gateway to spread the motherly love of Good Shepherd in Malabar. The community was established with the initial help and leadership of Rev. Fr.  Varghese Perincherry VC. Sisters render their services in various areas like sewing training, nursery school, hostel facilities, family visits, tuition for children, and actively involved various parish activities. It also functions as the Novitiate House of Formation since 2006.
